Person dies and GEMS still deducts medical aid premium for 2 months to date

Good day

My mother works for the government and has GEMS medical aid (Membership No: ********** 65).

On this medical aid is her mother and father (GEAM Van Der Nest & GJ Van Der Nest). Her father, my grandfather, GJ Van Der Nest, passed away on 26 Oct 2018. My mother sent you the death certificate and everything needed during November. She communicated with you and you should GJ Van Der Nest will be removed from the medical aid.

For two months now (end Nov & end Dec) she has still been paying for his medical aid. On her payslip the same amount for medical aid is deducted.

Please assist us in this. We will not accept this service. It is not the first time we had issues with GEMS. This is unacceptable.

Good day

Thank you for bringing your concerns  regarding your contributions to our attention. 

As per our telephone discussion with you the membership of dependent 03 was cancelled on 11 December 2018 after the Persal cut-off date. The membership contributions will therefore be refunded via Persal in February 2019.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by the delay in resolution.

As per our communication with you, we can confirm that the refund request was paid with the claims payment run of 1 February 2019.

Hi Thanks for the reply. No, the above is not in order. No reimbur*****t has been received. Please email us the proof, account summary, exact amount outstanding. Everything please. This is not the first problem we have had and your support is not at all helpful. Please send this documentation. My grandfather passed away and my mother still paid the premiums. You need to understand that this is bad and stressful for my mother. She is going through a tough time and then her medical aid does not help at all. At least 2 months of payments need to be paid back for GJ Van Der Nest. Probably around R3000. We are going to the Onbudsman if you don't help in due time. Regards Bennie
