No dialysis unit in Alberton

I receive dialysis twice a week. Gems has a DSP list and I am only allowed to go to one of these.

I am moving to Alberton and have found out that Gems does not have a centre in the Alberton area. I am expected to go to Parktown in Johannesburg. I don't have transport and am unemployed, I don't have the money to get transport there. The worst part is that there is a centre 5 minutes away for where I will be residing, but Gems expect me to make a co-payment if I go there.

I feel this practice is unfair and does not consider the members. I realise transport is not the problem of Gems, but thhey also need to be realistic. I am usually weak after dialysis and cannot stand for long. To take publlic transport over such a long distance can cause me to collapse.

I feel Gems needs to reconsider their policy and take into account the individual circumstances of members.
