GEMS REFUSING TO PAY FOR MRI IN HOSPITAL AFTER STROKE

My husband had a stroke yesterday and had to get various tests done. With the most important one obviously the MRI to check whether there has been any damage to his brain. GEMS is refusing to pay for the scan as we ‘only joined in September’. Even though we moved from discovery and did not have a break in cover. And was ensured (which is also clear from our medical aid certificate) that no waiting periods, exclusions and restrictions would apply. I am not even on the entry level plans and is now forced to pay 16000 in for a test which should be covered as he is in hospital!! Clearly it is not a convenient time to have a stroke.. It is terrible to think one cannot have peace of mind about being covered. God forbid something happens to my family whilst we’re traveling over the festive season. Shocking to say the least!!
