GEMS Policy on Gynaecologist Referrals Is Unacceptable

I’m writing to express my serious frustration with their policy requiring a GP referral before seeing a gynaecologist. Quite frankly, it’s unacceptable. As women, we don’t need a GP to tell us when we need to see a gynaecologist we know our own bodies. Forcing us to pay out of pocket for a GP visit just to access basic, necessary healthcare is not only unnecessary, it feels like exploitation. It’s a blatant money-making loophole that disregards women’s health needs. This policy delays care, increases costs, and makes no medical sense. GPs are not specialists in women’s health their time should be spent treating illness, not acting as gatekeepers for services we should have direct access to. GEMS should be enabling access to care, not creating barriers. This is a rip-off and an insult to women’s healthcare. It needs to change.
