GEMS IS A HORRIBLE MEDICAL AID, AND DOES NOT CARE FOR ITS CLIENTS
My child was born 27 May 17, I submitted the birth certificate after a month. Gems claimed they did not received it, they sent SMS's and I sent it 3 more times all within 60 days. They suspended my child's benefits effective from August. I took this up with The council for medical schemes CMS. Explained everything, and sent proof that I did send within 60 days and that my child's benefits were terminated unfairly. The GEMS accepted the fault and reinstated her benefits 1 January 2018. Now from the time her benefits were terminated in August 17, I was paying for all medical expenses cash. Mind you she was an infant, medical care could not be compromised at that stage. Now GEMS wants me to pay for all the contributions were my dependent was not covered because of their inability to receive my emails and fax. I am now in arrears because someone did not received my childs birth certificate when I sent it. How fair is it that I have to pay contributions for the months were my dependent was not covered and I was paying cash.
As if that was not enough, I was involved in an accident in July, and was taken to casualty, GEMS refuses to pay the hospital which is on the GEMS Network. This is the second time whereby I have a medical aid and still I have to pay out of the pocket for my medical bills.
GEMS has never treated me like a paying customer, I am out of words.
