Gems' elongated waiting periods

I joined gems last year October . Today I'm admitted for maternity proplem and they are using the waiting period story.i consulted with a gems official about changing options because of my pregnancy and she said there was no need at all I will be covered through the maternity program which I immediately joined. Why did I join at the first place if I'm going to be told this 6 months down the line. We don't join medical aids cause we need a status it's simply a form of insurance to cover me in my needs...im frustrated because my monthly debit orders are not on waiting period theyve been deducted since October.
