Elderly let down by GEMS

<p>My mother is an 88year old lady and member of GEMS Nr: ********** 43. Last year 23rd November she was rushed to Worcester Medi-Clinic by ambulance. She stayed in hospital for 5 days of which 2 days were in High Care. Her 5 days stay was authorised (approved) by GEMS. Two months ago the hospital contacted me regarding a shortpayment of R5738.69 by the medical aid( Acc nr: 94288). They also asked me to contact GEMS and negotiate with them as the hospital had no luck since January 2016. I contacted Gems and the lady at Enquieries explained to me that the account was shortpaid but a request to reverse the non-payment of that amount was sent to the specific department at Gems that deals with payment of hospital accounts. Today I received a sms that this account was handed over for collection to the Debt Collectors (Ref nr: A ********** 918). My mother is not in a position to pay this amount as she is a pensioner and lives in a government subsidised old peoples home in Swellendam.</p>
