Disappointed in GEMS
I am a member of GEMS since 2015 (***). I am now retired and is still a active member. From the first of January 2025 they increased their fees with 14% , quite higher than other medical fund's. My pension is only R11149 per month but my contributions have gone up from R6261 to R3264, more than R600 pm. They now try to convince met to change to a lower plan where I can save on monthly contribution. I think it is for the government's NHC plan. What they do not consider is that all the doctors and hospitals are not covered on this plan. My cardiologist, dentist and my spouse orthopedic surgeon are not on their list. That means new doctors that are not on speed with our conditions, therefore a co -payment of R2000 per doctor. Where is the savings now? Benefits are being depleted ect. Why do I have to be charged for the maximum salary (16549). I really don't understand why they treat their loyal members like secondhand citizens. J. C van Rooyen
