confused about the way the deal with claims
<p>I am so angry and confuse about Gems. The reason why I decided to take medical aid because I didn't want to owe any doctor or hospital. On the 8th April my 4year child went to N17 hospital for exctration of some teeth and feeling she stayed at the hospital for 4h30 hrs .On the 5 May 2016 gems forwarded a statement to me To my suprise hospital amount was not paid in full .code 58007 has a balance of R 2007.50,code 58081 has a balance of R 3547 which means I am now owing the hospital. I phoned the hospital account department i was told that they are suprised about gems by not paying the hospital amount they are still fighting with gems about the matter ,en it seems as if lot of gems customers are having the same problem.I am paying a lot of amount worse I am on Emerald option but service from gems its SUCKS.Whats a use of having medical aid at the same time owing hospital such huge amount.According to the hospital gems is using wrong tarrifs. Real i am so dissapointed,BIG time .On the other hand even anaesthetic doctor was not paid in full. What is a difference of me having medical aid and the person who dont have medical aid. FOR ME GEMS SERVICE IS NOT GOOD. i wonder when i am i going to get good service like other customers at GEMS. </p>

Dear mayoyokie,
Thank you for affording GEMS the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
Upon receipt of your complaint, GEMS investigated the short payment of the account for services rendered on 8 April 2016. The account was reviewed and we can confirm that it was paid correctly according to the Scheme’s rates. The hospital is a non-contracted hospital and charges in excess of the Scheme’s rates.
In light of the above, you are liable for the short-payment as GEMS pays all accounts in accordance to Scheme rates and available benefits.
We trust that the above is in order.
