bad service

I am a new member of this medical aid and was just informed by the call centre that i am not covered by medical aid for the next three months which means that i will be paying in the region of R20000 inclusively and recieving no service. Even emergencies will have to be reviewed. i was not informed about this and cancelled my existing medical aid. Is this even legal
