Bad customer service GEMS

I phoned GEMS customer call centre 6 January 2017 in connection with a membership issue- ref ********** 2.

The operator informed me that our membership was terminated 31 December. I informed her that I cancelled our “Termination of membership” on the 15 December 2016. I emailed the cancellation of termination of membership through to your enquiries department on 15 December 2016 - 11.09 - they even acknowledge receipt of my e-mail.

I was transferred to the contribution dept - ref 06017/QZDRL8 - who informed me that they have already terminated our membership. When I expressed my disagreement to state that it is not our problem but the inefficiency from the enquiries dept - I was just told that we have to reapply for membership.

I maintain that it is not our problem because GEMS were notified in time (15 December 2016 - 11.09) to cancel the termination of membership (GEMS even acknowledge my e-mail). I cannot be held responsible for the inefficiencies of the enquiries department.

I hereby insist the our membership be reinstated with immediate effect because I cannot be held responsible for the inefficiencies of GEMS.

GEMS responded as follows:

From: ********** **********
Sent: 10 January 2017 10:09 AM
To: Christiaan Thomas Botha
Subject: termination of membership - ********** 06. [MI ********** 51]

Good Day

Please note that the termination letter was dated 17/11/2016 and we therefore app**** the calendar notice period for voluntary terminations and the membership was terminated 31/12/2016. Contact the membership department as they will be able to assist you. The call centre number is ***.

Kind Regards
GEMS Premiums Department

I reponded as follows:

Hi,

So there is no way that you can retract a termination of membership request – because although the termination letter was dated 17/11/2016 and you therefore app**** the calendar month notice period for voluntary terminations which ended 17/12/2016 - there is no way that you except a retraction notice that you receive even if it is within the calendar month notice period – the retraction email was send to your office on 15/12/2016 at 11.09 – ie that is 2 days before the calendar month notice period for voluntary terminations which ended 17/12/2016.

AM Botha
