12 months chronic waiting period...12 months too long for my health

We app**** for a GEMS medical aid when i left my previous employer in August 2019. The payments have been debited via payroll which means that we are up to date. We waited for the 3 months trial. My husband has been paying R1.5k monthly since September for the medication as I am no longer employed. So yesterday i go to my pharmacy to collect chronic medication for the 2 conditions that I am managing, as i received a text last week saying that my application will be processed within 2 working days. To my surprise , i am told that the claim is being rejected due to waiting period. When we called today we were told that we need to wait another 9 months. My question is should I lose my life because of the waiting period when previous records with the same medical aid should reflect my medical history. Isnt there a way that the committee which approves chronic medications could have checked as my husband is still under the employ of the government. So, does this mean we are paying for no service except doctor's service, when both conditions could lead to death in case of default or non consumption of required doses? Why is the government gambling with people's lives on such matters?
