Average experience

There is a large amount to be said concerning Gearbox and Diff Doctor in Randburg.

Let's start with the good:

1- They came recommend by Audi South Africa, so that was an immediate plus point.

2- My vehicle required extensive repair work to be carried out, and after I visited two car dealerships and both these dealerships failure to tell me what was wrong with my car, did I discover Gearbox and Diff Doctor in Randburg (more in Strijdom Park than Randburg to be accurate).

3- They offer a six-month guarantee on work conducted, and offer to make additional repairs in the (unlikely) event that should something occur to the work they carried out.

4- Costa, the technician, is friendly and willing to stick to turnaround times and deadlines, well done sir. He can be reached via phone to give you direct feedback, well done.

5- It is refreshing to find that we have businesses out there that still try their best to complete work to a high standard.

The downsides:

2.1 Labour rates quoted per hour seems rather high, and the pricing seems rather exorbitant. I understand that this is specialized work and that several days need to be allocated towards completing a major repair, still this is not an opportunity to exploit and profiteer on unsuspecting customers.

2.2 There was no attempt made at providing a shuttle or courtesy vehicle, that for a customer that works 3 kilometers away in Ferndale, this makes life extremely challenging especially if your vehicle stays with them for SEVERAL DAYS.

2.3 A quotation given to a customer needs to be regarded and treated as a final quotation.

Be mindful of the fact that customers have budgets, and I'm sure that nobody reading my review has an infinite supply of disposable income available.

Telling the customer several days later that more items need to be added onto the quotation after closer inspection is bad business practice, after the customer has already indicated acceptance of the first tendered quotation.

Rather DO NOT issue a customer with a quotation unless you as Gearbox and Diff Doctor Randburg are absolutely certain you are now able to provide a quotation on absolutely everything that needs to be carried out.

2.4 Snarky and smurky remarks are completely out of line and inappropriate in a business environment especially when the customer is already experiencing high levels of anxiety and pressure from knowing they need to find the means to fund extremely expensive repair work.

I am uncertain if the repair work carried out will withstand the test of time, not a space I want to be in, but overall the experience was average. Nothing outstanding.
