GDP group Cherry/Baic Roodepoort delivery of defective vehicle

Delivered a defective brand-new vehicle. Ignored my formal cancellation notice or vehicle change. Only responded when MIOSA got involved sending me a form to log a formal dispute.

I took delivery of a new BAIC X55 1.5T Premium on 03 April 2026. It arrived with rust on the brake hubs, unknown tapes on the body, a dirty interior, a broken tracker, bonnet misalignment, a paint chip, and peeling roof trim and missing paint.

On 09 April 2026 I formally cancelled the sale under Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, gave them a 48-hour deadline, and demanded return of my trade-in (2024 Chery Tiggo 4) and a full refund.

GDP Group ignored me completely.

I escalated to MIOSA to advise on a way forward. Within ONE HOUR of MIOSA sending a complaint form to the dealership, they responded to me.

One hour. After days of silence following a formal legal notice.

Their response? They admitted the defects but called them "minor" and refused to cancel initially was told the car is under warranty. They want to repair a vehicle that should never have been delivered in that condition.

I am not accepting repairs. I am pursuing cancellation through MIOSA, the NCC, Absa Vehicle Finance, and the National Consumer Tribunal.

Buyers beware — this dealership only moves when a regulator is watching.
