Poor quality Garmin Vivo Active 3

I have another companies sports watch for a few years now, no issues. A year and a half ago, my husband also wanted to buy a sports watch, but he wanted to buy a high quality watch, much more expensive than mine. He decided to spend a lot of money on aparent high quality watch. He bought a Garmin Vivo Active 3 for R5500!! High quality... on the contrary. After just over a year, the watch gave problems with the charging, up to the point where it does not charge at all and it was sent away. Garmin's response... We will give you another one, same 'high quality', but you pay another R1800. So R7300 for a Garmin VivActive 3, after the previous one broke after only 18 months!! Who would spend that much money on the same thing that broke so easily?!? I ecpected more from Garmin, I've only heard positive things from Garmin, but now I am wondering if in fact Garmin is really that high quality. Should my husband not just take the R1800 and go buy something similar to what I have? R5500 in the water... I am a marathon and ultra marathon runner. People regularly ask my opinion on sport watches. I always said Garmin, but definitely not after my husbands experience.
