Garmin South Africa

I recently sent my Garmin Montana 610 in for repairs recently after the screen turned white whilst during normal use, and was unable to get any response from it.

Garmin South Africa was contacted and I was instructed telephonically to send it in as they could not help me telephonically.

Having been told that I would be contacted within a couple of days and Garmin failing to do so, I tried calling today and was told abruptly to check my junk mail because a quote had been sent.

The quote received quite simply was, unrepairable and you need to buy a new one. I find this totally unacceptable. When asking to talk to a superior of the technician, I was refused and told to respond by mail, when asking to speak to the managers superior I was told that was not allowed as it had to go through the channels.

Firstly the problem of a white screen is something that is experienced world wide, all one has to do is Google white screen Garmin.

I haven’t had this unit for ore than 5 yrs and paid a lot of money for it.(Approx R12k with windscreen holder and T4A Sim card) I travel all over Africa and was instructed to get the Montana by Garmin as the Nuvi was unable to guide me adequately with tracks for Africa.

The response saying that its unrepairable without any explanation leads me to believe that the fault lies with the product and not the operator.

I would like further information as to why the unit is like it is as it was during normal use that it turned to a white screen.

I feel the manner in which I have been dealt with is unacceptable, I am sending this mail as instructed to get some kind of answer to the problem.

Being refused access to senior management, for an explanation is unacceptable in any business today. I am waiting for a response from Garmin, as a result of my email....
