Very disappointing experience with Garfield Crew Contractors (Pty) Ltd – GAUTENG I am sharing my experience to warn other potential customers before committing their money to this company. We spent almost R30,000 with Garfield Crew Contractors (Pty) Ltd for the supply and installation of wooden laminate flooring and the building of a cabinet above our fridge. Unfortunately, the service we received did not reflect the company’s advertised promise of: “Reliable • Professional • All-in-One Solutions” and “WE GUARANTEE WORKMANSHIP” From the beginning, there were issues. Work was scheduled to start on 15 December 2025. On 17 December 2025, the crew did not arrive. When we followed up, we were advised that the crew were allegedly unable to work because they had been “drinking the whole night” and that another crew would be sent from another site. After the laminate flooring was installed, we had to call them back to address poor joins, visible defects, and what appeared to be burn marks in the laminate. We were advised that these marks were apparently “the way they lay them”, which was not something we expected from a newly installed floor. The workmanship issues continued. Less than eight months later, the laminate flooring is now lifting in 2-3 areas in the middle of the floor. This appears to be a workmanship/installation issue rather than normal wear and tear. We also paid for a cabinet above our fridge which was not completed built properly (looked second hand) and was missing parts that the owner Johnny had to go fetch from the carpenter which took another 2-3 weeks before we saw/heard from him again. The half built cabinet was eventually refunded and removed. To add more angst to our experience, Garfield Crew Contractors also stripped several *****s while reassembling the desks, which resulted in one of the desks collapsing onto an employee. This could have caused a very serious injury. They returned and reassembled all the desks; however, a few weeks later, the same issue occurred. At that point, we did not contact Garfield Crew again and instead arranged for a handyman to secure all the desks properly using new *****s in different positions. When we raised our concerns, we did not receive a proper solution. Instead, our complaints were met with laughing face emojis, which we found extremely unprofessional and dismissive from a business dealing with a legitimate customer complaint. When we initially raised our concerns about the cabinet, the response from the Durban owner was aggressive and included swearing, rather than an attempt to resolve the issue professionally. We were also promised a 20-year warranty on the flooring. Despite requesting the warranty documentation, we never received a proper warranty document containing the manufacturer details, product details, or warranty terms. We were later told that we had refused the warranty and had allegedly thrown it back at them, which is not what happened. The document shown to us did not contain the necessary details, and we were advised that the correct warranty would be obtained from the manufacturer, but it was never provided. A further concern is that photographs of our property/building were taken and posted on Garfield Crew Contractors (Pty) Ltd’s social media pages without our consent or permission. This raises serious privacy concerns for us, particularly because the flooring installation was carried out in our home office, where sensitive information relating to our customers is stored and handled. We were not consulted or asked for permission before images of our property were used publicly. We consider this a serious concern regarding privacy and compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Businesses should obtain proper consent before photographing and publishing images of a customer’s premises. Instead of resolving the workmanship issues, providing the promised warranty information, and addressing our consumer concerns professionally, we have been told that legal action for defamation may be taken if we report our experience and pursue our consumer rights. This review is not intended as a threat or personal attack. It is a record of our experience as paying customers. We believe other customers should be aware of the importance of getting clear written warranties, checking workmanship carefully, confirming privacy expectations, and ensuring there is proper after-sales support before using this company. We would encourage anyone considering using Garfield Crew Contractors (Pty) Ltd to do thorough checks, request everything in writing, and carefully consider their experience with after-sales service before proceeding.
