had an extremely disappointing experience at this hotel. After checking in, I discovered that the windows couldn’t open properly and the room had a terrible odor, which turned out to be a marijuana smell. Within 15 minutes I requested a refund, but was told to wait until the next morning when the manager would be available. The next day, instead of honoring the refund, the manager and staff kept coming up with different excuses. First, they claimed we sat on the beds, even though we didn’t stay overnight. Then they said the windows couldn’t open fully for “security reasons,” which was absurd. Later, they alleged we had used the soap, and finally, they tried to pin a joint they found in the room on us — even though the marijuana smell was the reason we wanted to leave in the first place. In the end, I paid R3,000 and was not refunded. The way this was handled was absolutely disgusting, and the shifting excuses felt dishonest and unprofessional. Based on this experience, I strongly advise against staying at Garden Court Umhlanga.
