Extreme Shoddy workmanship and terrible aftersales service
On 8 October 2021, MARKO, owner of DOOR-TRONIX installed an electric garage motor to one of my garage doors. On 11 October, the motor packed up and instead of replacing the motor, he became verbally very abusive, and took it out and had it repaired. He blamed it on load shedding, which we did not have. Twice since the replacement, the motor opened only part of the way and then ceased to work. Every time he came out to “reprogram” the motor and every time he raved and ranted that it was due to load shedding, which we still did not have at that time. On 11 November he installed a motor on my other garage door, and it also gave problems three days later, on 14 November. Again ranting and raving about load shedding, which we still did not have. After a few days this motor started giving problems, again not functioning properly, and another company was called out at a call out fee of R450.00. They reprogrammed both motors properly and we have not had any problems since, despite us having had load shedding multiple times since then. 21 July we were on our way to the doctor, and when we pressed the button to open the door, the whole door fell of the brackets, narrowly missing the back of my car. We called the previous company who repaired his mess, and they found that instead of fitting an extra wheel to the end of the roll up shaft to fit the motor into, the existing plastic wheel that the door rolls up onto, had been butchered to fit the motor, weakening the wheel and also causing it to warp. But the biggest problem here was that the U bolt that secures the shaft of the door to the bracket that it rests on, WAS NEVER REPLACED. So every time the door was opened and closed the shaft moved ever so slightly until it moved so much that it just fell of the bracket. Fortunately nobody was standing under or next to it when it fell, or they could have been seriously injured or killed. Both the plastic wheels on the door had to be replaced, and the motor correctly installed by adding a third wheel, AND A U BOLT to secure the shaft of the door. On the other door, a third wheel had to be added and the motor removed from the also butchered existing wheel. Funnily enough, when I called him on 27 June, to discuss the matter with him before going further with it, he AGAIN became abusive, saying it wasn’t him, and that I got someone in to work on the doors and that THEY caused all the problems, and promptly ended the call. TOTAL EXTRA COST DUE TO BAD WORKMANSHIP: R3,200.00 + R450.00 = R3,650.00. Quite a substantial unnecessary amount for a pensioner.
