I went to Game Store Vincent Park, East London, were i submitted all the documentation required to open an account, I was informed i would get a response within 48 hours. On the 06th of November i received an email stating that my Game Store Card had been approved subject to verification of my income. To which i scanned and sent the requested proof of income. On the 08 th of November i received another email acknowledging receipt of all the requested documentation and was advised that my application was being finalised. There after i received a message to say that my application could not be processed as my proof of income had not been received as yet. I then called the call centre and was advised that there seemed to be a technical problem as they had received the documents i had sent but could not view or open the attachments that i had sent, i was then informed that a query had been logged with their IT department and the consultant advised that i go instore and submit the requested documentation over the Counter. On the 14th of November i went to the Game Store Vincent Park, East London to follow up on my application. On viewing my application the Consultant called the call centre were i was informed that my application had not been approved as i did not have a South African Identity Document. WHAT i do not understand is that when i initiated the application i provided my South African Home Affairs issued Refugee Identity Document which they said was fine together with the proof of income. I have used the same South African Refugee Identity Document to open accounts with other major retailers; Truworths, The Foschini Group, The Edcon Group and MR Price Stores. I feel that Game Stores is practicing Institutionalized Xenophobia because when they realised that i was not a South African National they cancelled my application which they had approved prior to that. I am of the sentiment that some individuals working at their Call Centre were just trying to find an issue with my application because i am foreign national. I have a South African issued identity document and submitted all the relevant accompanying documentation and have a good credit score in South Africa.
