Retailers causing loadshedding
Game are still advertising high-wattage appliances like 2000W heaters instead of punting the low-wattage alternatives. In a country that suffers from a shortage of electricity, this is VERY irresponsible. If just 500 people switch on their 2000W heater Eskom is down another megawatt - something the country can ill afford!<br> <br> I'm boycotting Game and other retailers that still sell these high-wattage appliances - and I encourage others to do the same. If they started advertising lower-wattage appliances when loadshedding first hit in 2007 the chances that we wouldn't have loadshedding now are very good.<br> <br> I mailed Massmart over a week ago about this but was of course ignored, which just goes to show the extreme level of apathy about our current situation. Greed obviously outweighs social responsibility.

We have received and noted your concern raised. Please note that this is not taken lightly by Game as we are a reputable and socially responsible retailer. Bar and Fan heaters generally do have a higher output wattage than other heaters, however these heaters only form part of our range of heaters as we need to cater to various customer needs. Furthermore the wattage communicated in our adverts is the maximum wattage per heater. This is done for the purpose of clarity and transparency to our customers. Wattage can be controlled by regulating how many bars are switched on from 500W - 2000W depending on the heater. As we are also aware of the current power constraints in the country, we are driving other low wattage solutions such as Gas Heaters, Panel Heaters and Oil Fin Heaters.
Once again I would like to assure you that we are responsible in our retail practices however we also have the responsibility to make sure that we cater to the various needs of our different customers.
