Requested to repair machine higher than purchase price

Last year I bought a ryobi brush cutter for R1390.00 and I used this machine alone on a yard that is less than 20m once a month and 3 months later the machine had a problem so I took it back to the store and it was fixed, because of what happened I was scared using it so I barley used it and I also was working away from my place of resident but then when I was at my place I tried using the machine again but it stopped working so I took it back to game again before the warranty expired and they took the machine again for repairs a month later I got a call requesting that I pay R1595.00 so it can be repaired and I asked them how can some one repair a machine less than its purchase price. Worse part I hardly even used it so how do I know that the person who was fixing it the last time ruined it on purpose and what if a week later the same machine becomes fualty again. When I asked the manager all these questions he could not answer and in my minder I could see that this is day light ******* if the adverti*****t says 1 year guarantee why pay a price larger than the purchase price?
