Refund refusal

On 21 January I bought a Trimtech 750Watt lawn trimmer at Game Key West. After the second use of the trimmer, the line started feeding continuesly, making it impossible to use. On closer inspection I discovered the the clutch mechanism that feed the line, has worn away.

Yesterday, 7 February, I took the trimmer back to Game Key West and asked for a refund, as it was not even 3 weeks since my purchase. It is my understanding that Game has a 30-day return/refund policy.

I was informed by the consultant that this was not possible, as the gaurantee is for the motor only. I pointed out to him that this is not stipulated anywhere on the gaurantee that come in the box. He referred to his manager, to whom I explained the whole thing again. I was told that it would have to be sent in to the manufacturer for repair. I declined and insisted on a refund, but was denied. I was then told to buy the replacment part at another store (Key Wesy had no stock), and bring my receipt for a refund.

I find this unacceptable, as the item is less that 3 week old and became defective thru no fault of my own. I do not want a replacement part or a replacement item, but a refund, as I have no more faith in the brand.

please advise

Not acceptable. I have vener had an issue with returns, why now? I spent R600 on an item, which broke after the 2nd use. Asking for a refund is not unreasonable. It WAS assessed by the manager instore. It deos not take 10 days to assess the problem here. I need a refund (or new item if you insist) not 10 days from now.
