Misinformed customer

I bought a Russel Hobbs kettle at the game stores in king Williams Town and it stoped working a few months later, when I returned it as it was still under warranty the cashier told me I should have gotten it registered which they never mentioned this on time of purchase. I was met with a lot of attitude and they refused to help because it was never “ registered”. I still don’t know what registering an item means as this was all new to me because I have bought a lot of items prior to this and never was told about a registration process.
