Massmart not playing the Game

Game advertised a specific item in their printed catalogue for the period 25 May to 7 June. I travelled to the Game Mimosa Store with great excitement. And when I got there the item was not available...This has happend often before - not only with Game, but all the Massmart Stores (Builders Warehouse, Makro). I asked to discuss the matter with the manager. Etienne explained to me that notwithstanding the fact that the item was advertised (623323) the store did not receve any stock. I have heard this story so often before that I have now decided to stop buying at any Massmart Store going forward. Mr Mark Lamberti, the great business youbuild up over the years has been run into the ground. I am an LSM 10 and just Monday I spent R 2500 at the Bloemfontein Makro. This has been my last purchase at a Massmart store.... Do not believe what you see in a Massmart brochure, it will not be in stock....

Please find herewith feedback from the Store Manager:

I can’t get hold of the customer. I have been phoning since yesterday.

I contacted head office we don’t keep the line in our store, however Tarnya (head office) said that if the customer pays she will send us the item.

Regards

Reviewer Update

Good Day Rina

In this matter I refer to your reply of Saterday morning - the swiftness of your reply is commendable. However, from that point forward my experience with your company has reached a new lowpoint.

You seem to have totally misunderstood the nature of my complaint: The complaint is not about an item that was out of stock. The complaint is about ALL MASSMART STORES REPEATEDLY advertising items in the print media, and when one gets to the store not only is the item not in stock, IT WAS NEVER SEND TO THE STORE, i.e. the store did not receive stock. This is something that happens again-and-again and I get the impression that it is a deliberate tactic that is aimed at getting the customer to buy some other product.

With regards to the corrective actions, the first telephone calls from your Mimosa store only came through on Tuesday at 12:23 - I had to go onto the net to identify where the number came from. This was at a time when I was in a meeting - two calls followed, the last at 13:00. Not once was a message left. A further call followed at 17:21 while I was in a Kindermusik session with my son. Not once a message was left on my voicemail, stating who is "spam calling" me. More calls followed over the next two days, and not once a message was left.

While searching the net to establish who is spam calling me, I discovered that the item (Fitbit Flex) is again on special with Game until 21 June. I left Bloemfontein for buiness on Wednesday. During my travels I decided to visit the Game stores that were on my route. I started out with Potchefstroom Game: "Did not receive stock", Klerksdorp Game - "Did not receive stock", Rooihuiskraal Game - "Did not receive stock". At this point it became clear to me that the item may be advertised but that it is not available in your stores. I walked into the Cape Union Mart Store at Rooihuiskraal and bought the item for R 400 more than what it was advertised for at Game.

You are welcome to post a further reply in this matter, but I have already wasted a lot of energy, time and money on this matter and now consider it finalised. I will wear my Fitbit as a reminder not to shop at any Massmart Stores - advertising that you are selling an item and then not stocking it in at least 4 of your stores is dishonest. As a matter of principle I will boycott all the Massmart stores in future. Pleas stop dumping your pamphlets in my postbox at home...
