Lies, Deceit and False Marketing - All true to Game standards!
This should come as no surprise since Game has a reputation of ********** service and absolute apathy to the customers needs. Earlier this year, I bought a laptop online, paid for it upfront and after hassling Game non-stop without any result, eventually resorting to getting the ethics council involved, 2 months later I was informed that there was no stock, they could not send it, and I would have to be refunded, which happened 2-3 weeks later. How you can buy a product online where it shows in stock and then to have no stock after 2 months just floors me!
Today I saw a special online that I thought would be worth going for. As I was making the purchase, I braced myself for very long waiting times and that there would likely be some kind of issue. Game had advertised the Vivo Y11 Dual Sim for R320. I bought 2, for my husband and I, and made a purchase on behalf of my brother in law and his wife as well. However, soon thereafter, I got a call from Game saying that it was their mistake and they are "covered by the CPA", so had the right to change it, and had to refund it.
This blew my mind. They had advertised a product for a price, which I had bought and PAID FOR IN FULL! But yet, they supposedly had the right to change it after the fact, and insist I pay 6 times the original purchase value - not due to my error, but due to their own?!?! When I said this to the person who called, she said that this is what the CPA covered. You mean the Consumer Protection Act? How on EARTH does that protect me as the consumer?? As I said to her, what this means is that you can then change any price on your website. Any product I buy, you can call me afterwards and say, "oh no, that was a mistake, actually you have to pay us another R____ or you can't have it". How is that ethical??
When I raised that with the call centre agent, she said, yes, that was what the CPA stipulated. Absolute *******!
Any other industry, and you could be taken to court over this. If I am a provider of any sort, and I quote an amount (whether it is erroneous or not), you have to stick to it. You are legally obliged to stick to the quote. You quoted me R320. I have a screenshot of the offer. You have to stick to it. Why should I pay for your mistake?!?! If our business makes a mistake like this, we compensate for it because it is our fault, not the customers'.
Game is very involved in giveaways at the moment, but sticking to your word on advertising is not even a possibility. FOCUS ON YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS BEFORE YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT GIVEAWAYS! We are paying you for a service that you are expected to provide. Game does not "ungrump" anyone. They have completely "grumped" all of their consumers. I know I am not the only one.
I expect to receive all 4 purchased phones as promised by Game. This whole situation is your fault, not mine. Now sort it out.
