HP SMART TANK 500 NOT WORKING

Today 9 January i bought a hp smart 500 printer from Game in Jeffreysbay. I set up the printer and it keeps on showing a paper jam. The item was on display. Guy said it was never used its still brandnew. However can it say paper jam when no one previously used it and there is no paper inside. Hope someone from management can assist.
