GAME Upington No Service on Warranties

On 21/11/2015 I bought my son a new PS3 from Game Upington. It had a one year warranty.

During August 2016 the PS3 stopped reading discs. It happened in the middle of a game while my son was playing. We packed the PS3 with all accessories as it was when I bought it, in the original box and took it together with the receipt to Game Upington on 30/08/2016. Collection slip nr: 0336/ ********** 8. They told us at Game we will receive the PS3 back within 3 weeks.

On 10/09/2016 I've received a call from Game Upington, and was inform that it was found that the damage was physical damage. I request further information as it does not made sense to me at all, that it could stop reading discs due to physical damage. No information was given to me.

On 20/09/2016 we went to town and visit Game Upington to enquire about this matter. They only gave me a number and name and told me I must contact Sandra for more information on 051- ********** .

I phoned this number the same day and leave a message on an answering machine. I was never contacted back. On 21/09/2016 I call again and spoke with Sandra.

She informed me again there was physical damage. I asked her to explain this to me, and she mentioned the following reasons why she was not able to sent the PS3 to the factory for repairment/replacement:

A) According to her the device had a bump on the one corner. She told me the device must have defnitely fall. Not true. The device was on a build-in wall unit in my son's room and during cleaning, I accidently lightly bump it against the wall at the back.

B) She told me the cover infront of the opening where a larger hard disc drive can be installed, was missing. Not true as I ensure together with my son the device was totally complete when we packed it.

I also told her that the only time the cover was removed, was when we took it to JAM Office, an electronic specialist business in order to install a 500 GB hard disc drive. Sandra almost get a heart attack and wanted to know why on earth my son had the need for a larger hard disc drive. And then she told me we were suppose to send the device to them to install the 500 GB hard disc drive. I told her we did in fact went to Game Upington first and was informed they do not sell it. Therefor we went to JAM.

She just told me sorry it was physical damages and will cost me another R1800 to repair it. It cost me R2990 when I bought it. Never was anything mentioned what the electronic problem was causing it to stopped reading discs.

I really get the impression that excuses are made up in order for Game not to fulfill their warranty promises on devices. If what Sandra told me is part of their warranty terms, it mean for a year no electronoc device you bought from them, can be used because of there is a scratch on it, your warranty will expire. You must lock it in a safe somewhere!

Also you are not allowed to buy any accessories from any other shop for any device bought from them. Ridiculous!

I request assistance please in order to get my son's PS3 either repair/replace. I had to save up to be able to buy my son this, and cannot just accept that is our loss while Game cannot give acceptable reasons for not keeping their warranty promises.

Thanking you in advance

Daleen Opperman
