Game Stores selling Flawed Appliances at Premium Prices

Hi

I purchased a Defy microwave from Game Store Galleria Mall, less than a year ago. Last week while my wife was cleaning the microwave, she noticed that a part of the microwave was starting to catch rust. She notified Game Store Galleria Mall about the rust on the microwave. They reply was that warranty doesn’t cover rust , they cannot help us and we need to buy a new microwave if we want .I think this is unfair to customers in general, as it has been less than a year and the appliance is rusting. Game stores are selling flawed appliances at premium prices and do not want to take responsibility for their flawed appliances. I want Game Store to sort out my microwave, if I do not receive a response, I will be posting this matter on social media, also I will be seeking legal advice from my lawyer.

Hi Keegan, thank you for reaching out. We apologize for the rust on your microwave. Please note that rust is considered a cosmetic issue and is not covered under the warranty.

So I guess a big entity like Game stores are behaving like a tuck shop and refuse to take responsibility. So everything we buy from game stores, needs to be replaced every year ,as Microwaves we buy from games stores are made out of tin material and need to be replaced every couple months? If this matter is not resolved ,I will be paying visit to the store and its not going to nice, as I work hard for our money and its not right for game stores to rob me for my money.

We sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've been experiencing with your recent purchase. We understand how frustrating it can be when an appliance doesn't function as expected. Please note that while our warranty does cover technical issues, it unfortunately doesn't cover general wear and tear. We will arrange for your item to be assessed. Please be aware that this may come at a cost, depending on the nature and severity of the issue. For more details on this and our overall terms and conditions, please follow the provided link https://tinyurl.com/5zxzw8xk. We appreciate your patience in this matter. We hope to provide a solution that meets your needs.

In South Africa, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) provides a six-month warranty on goods, including appliances, for defects, including rust, that make them unfit for their intended purpose. This warranty means that if an appliance develops rust within six months of purchase, the consumer can return it to the supplier for a repair, replacement, or refund. The supplier is responsible for addressing these issues, even if the fault is covered by a manufacturer's warranty

It's sad when a retailer that I spent thousands of rands with, during all these years.giving them alot of business. Now they are treating me a dog and fighting with me to return an appliance that is worth only R2 000. It's not about the money it's about then principle. The Game stores Management have really went down hill during the years.they have forgotten how to treat a loyal customer. Its sad but it's reality
