Game Stores Misleading Advertising & IT Incompetence – Still No Refund After 20 Days!
Complaint:
I placed a grocery order via Game Stores’ online shopping platform on 30 May 2025. After making full payment, I was shocked to be informed that several of the products were out of stock — despite being clearly marked as “in stock” on their app and website at the time of purchase.
This is not only misleading advertising but potentially a regulatory violation, as customers are lured into transacting under false pretenses. Their customer service casually informed me that the refund would be processed within 3–5 working days, and that the funds would reflect within 7–14 working days. Today is 19 June 2025 — and still no refund.

This is utterly unacceptable in 2025. Game’s IT systems and operational processes are not just outdated — they are shockingly ***********. In any decent online retail operation, real-time inventory management is a basic standard. How is Game still selling products they do not have in stock?
This shows a complete disregard for customers’ time, money, and trust. It begs the question — has Game Stores’ IT department ever heard of real-time stock synchronization? Or are customers expected to subsidize their operational inefficiencies with delayed refunds and unfulfilled orders?
To make matters worse, this is not a one-off incident, judging by the number of similar complaints online. Yet there seems to be no urgency or accountability, and certainly no escalation from Game's side.
The regulatory bodies, too, should take a long, hard look at this pattern of misrepresentation and delayed reimbur*****ts, which clearly undermines consumer protection principles in South Africa.
Do better, Game. This level of dysfunction is inexcusable.
This is not about your refund timeline “process.”
This is about the fact that your systems misled me into purchasing out-of-stock items, and 20+ days later, you still have not refunded me.
- Accepts money for goods not in stock.
- Promises a refund that never arrives on time.
- Offers vague, copy-paste apologies with no accountability.
- Violates basic e-commerce standards,
- Undermines consumer trust,
- And may even breach consumer protection regulations.
- A full refund, processed and reflected in my account.
- A written explanation of why your systems accepted payment for out-of-stock items.
- Proof that your team is investigating and fixing the underlying IT and operational flaws.
- The Consumer Goods & Services Ombud (CGSO)
- The National Consumer Commission
- Social media platforms where your online reputation is already under scrutiny.
