Game store treats its customers like trash!!
On the 11th of December I went to Game at Menlyn Mall to buy a 1 plate gas stove budget pack I had seen online for R650. When I arrive at the store on the Camping and Outdoor section there is no one there. So I check on the next section which was the Sports section and there was no one there either. The only area I saw people in was the Electronics section as I was walking into the shop in the direction of the Camping and Outdoor section. Since there was no one to assist me, I assisted myself. I looked for the product I was searching for until I found it, all on my own. I had some questions about the product but since there was no one there I had no one to ask so I left with the product because I needed it. I paid for it at the till and asked how come it was a different price online and the lady at the till kindly informed me that sometimes online prices are not the same as in store prices, which I accepted. Then I left with the product. It was the first time I have used gas in my life so I wasn't sure how it works. When I arrived home I read the manual, then proceeded to connected the different parts and attempted to start using the product but to my dismay it did not work. So I went back to Game to enquire if the product does not work or if I do not know how to use it because after all it was my first time using gas. When I arrived at Customer Service I was assisted by Sewela Mokhabuki, who was quite considerate and helpful. First she informed me that she also does not know how the product works so she will call the relevant person from the Camping section. She made a team announcement on the intercom and requested Gugu to come and assist at Customer Service. We waited for 15 minutes and no one came. Then Sewela Mokhabuki called Gugu again to come to Customer Service and still she did not come. We waited for another 5 minutes then I informed Sewela that if Gugu does not arrive in the next 5 minutes I would like to speak to the manager. Sewela then suggested that to make things quicker she will go and find Gugu herself and bring her. Then Sewela left for 4 minutes and came back with Gugu. Then everything went south. Gugu was shouting and making noise about being called from her work for useless claims, they spoke among each other while Gugu was being rude and inconsiderate. Sewela explained to her what assistance I require to which Gugu responded,"None of you here know how to use this product." Then Gugu turned to my direction and rudely said,"What's your problem?". I was shocked, but I tried to calm down and greeted her, to which she responded by saying, "Yes, what's your problem?". No explanation for what took her so long, no apology, just blatant rudeness. I explained my challenge to her and she responds by first saying,"You don't know how to use gas". I said,"I've never used gas in my life, it was my first time using it and I had questions but I couldn't ask anyone because no one was there yesterday when I came to purchase the product". Then she rudely said I must go and fill up the gas, Game doesn't put the product on the shelf with gas in it. Then she said,"Dankie" and left. I was very shocked and appalled by her rudeness so I asked for the Sales Manager to try and understand why I was treated this why and why there wasn't anyone on the floor to assist me because if there was someone, all of this could have been avoided. Sewela called the Sales Manager whose name is Andrew and he arrives. He says he will talk to Gugu and she will apologize. So I get confused by who she will apologize to because it doesn't seem as though I will be there when that apology takes place, it will be just between the 2 of them. Then I ask him how exactly their service is managed because as far as I know there has to be someone on the floor at all times, he says to me maybe she was on lunch. Then I ask him so if their staff is on lunch there is no one at the floor, he says Gugu probably left someone from the Sports section to watch her section. I told him, there was no one at the Sports section either, I checked. Then Andrew says, maybe he was assisting a customer. All speculation. So I tell him I'm not satisfied with his explanation and the recourse he is recommending so I would like my money back. He then tells Sewela to refund me. Sewela asks me if I want cash or back into my card. I say back into my card. She requests my card and my pin and I punch in my pin then I ask when the money will reflect and Sewela says in 24 hours. I tell them I want my money now, I wasnt informed that the money would reflect in 24 hours if I had know I would have said cash. Andrew explains to me that that's how cards work, I ask why wasn't I given the full details before the transaction is finalised, Andrew angrily says but Sewela asked me if I wanted cash or card. I told him that they should have informed me about the 24 hours. He responds angrily by saying, "There's nothing else we can do for you, that's how cards work because it's a credit card." I tell him it's a fusion account, both credit and debit he says on the slip it reflects credit. I say to him I'm not happy with this I want to talk to his manager, he smuggly says "Unfortunately his is off." Then I leave. I went to purchase another gas stove at Pick 'n Pay where I was assisted so well, I didnt have to ask for any details the details were offered and the lady assisting me even explained how the stove works and what I need to be cautious of when dealing with gas, she was absolutely wonderful, in stark contrast to Gugu and Andrew from Game. Then 24 hours later the money has not reflected in my account. So i was not only treated poorly at Game, i was also **** to. It's such a pity that Game has the nerve to treat customers in this manner during such hard times for businesses. I miss the Game store at Woodlands Boulevard, this kind of treatment never took place there.
