Game refuses to re-instate a paid Gift Card value
Going through my late wife's wallet, I found a Game Gift Card. I took it to a store and was informed that the card had expired and that the value had been lost or forgone! I was advised to contact Game Head Office to have the card or value re-instated, which I did.
I was informed by the card management company that Game Head Office had removed the value from the card as the card had expired. This should not be a problem as a new card could be issued with the same value on it.
After all, the money on the card belongs to the Gift Card holder, and NOT to Game. The card life may expire, but the value or money on it cannot.
Staff at Game Head Office were quite intransigent and simply said that the card and value had expired. When asked how someone's unspent money expires, they simply rep**** that it was Game's policy!
The value is not great, but the principle is HUGE. In my understanding, this is quite simply an act of theft! Harsh, but true.
Firstly, I did not expect any urgent response. Secondly, it was not a voucher, but a Gift Card. Thirdly, it was given to my late wife so I have no way of knowing who and when it was purchased. Fourthly, there is no expiry date visible on the card, with the exception of it stating that "This card is valid for three years from date of purchase". That just means that the card itself can expire - the value on the card still remains vested in the holder of the card. Game remain liable to provide a means of redeeming that value!
