Game Cellular ( Vodacom) Really Bad Service

I recently went into Game Kennilworth Centre to purchase two cellphone contracts. The cellphone that I wanted was not in stock so I asked if I could fill in all the forms so that I didn’t have to come in again, and so that my husband could just pick up the phones once they were in stock. I filled in the forms and was told that they would call me once the phone was available. I called in twice and was told that the phone was still out of stock so I asked if they could send them from another store. They checked the system and then called me back to say that my application was missing, and that I would have to come in and redo the application.

I went in and was told that I now needed 6 months bank statements, not 3, because I was self employed. I went to FNB to get the statements. Back at Game I was then told that I also needed a letter on a letterhead from me confirming my own income!! (since I don’t get a salary slip) Does that even make sense?!

I rep**** that they had my bank statements do they could see my income but that didn’t help. I was told that I had already been vetted and approved but they still needed the documentation.

I was then told to go downstairs to Vodacom as they apparently don’t need the same documentation as Game. I went to Vodacom where I was told that they don’t understand why Game needed all that documentation, and that they would happily do the contract for me, but unfortunately they didn’t have stock of the phone I wanted. I was told to go back up to Game and tell them to capture the application as is.

I went back up, and spoke to 3 different Manager’s who couldn’t seem to understand why a letter from me confirming my own income was ludicrous.

I went home, got a letter from my accountant confirming my income and emailed it through to them. I then went back in to pick up the phones.

I got there and told them I had faxed through the documentation. I was then told that they had only vetted me for one contract, not two and would have to vet me again. I told them that was fine, but they said that I would have to come back the next day as Vodacom was already closed. They then said I could take the contract with 2 phones instead. I said okay as by now I was desperate to get this done. Then I was asked if I have my own Vodacom sim card even though they knew I didn’t as I was taking up a new contact not upgrading. I said no, and was told that since I didn’t I would have to pay R105 for the SIM and activation. It was now already 6pm and I had gotten there at 10am that morning. We went ahead and I paid for the SIM and activation. And then I couldn’t even choose the colour of my phone! Oh, and as a bonus they found my original application as they were issuing my phone!

My line was only activated on 18 December, and today I received an SMS saying that I will be debited with R296 when my contract should be R209. I called Vodacom and was told that it was for activation of the new lines. I informed them that I had already paid R105.00 for activation in-store and they said that I should take it up with Game. My account has subsequently been debited with R392 in addition to the R105.00 already paid in-store and even though I've emailed and called your store I can't seem to get anyone to sort this out.

I would like a manager to sort this out as soon as possible please. I expect to be refunded for the R183. And I want some acknowledgement of the truly bad service and convoluted procedures you have in place. Other than the money, I spent all day there because your staff didn’t give me the correct information upfront, (the cost of activation, that they needed proof of address), they weren’t clear on what was needed so I had to get furnish statements 3 times, they lost the original application (so I had to pay for duplicate statements and drive in to redo the application) and they didn’t do their job properly in not vetting me for the 2 contracts instead of one. And your managers didn’t at all seem interested in sorting out the situation.

Please contact me as soon as possible.
