I arrived at the store and went to the bicycle section, where I found a sales agent busy assembling a bicycle for another customer. I waited for approximately 10 minutes before another sales agent assisted me. I asked him whether the bicycle I wanted was available, and he went to check. He later confirmed that it was available, and I received the bicycle.

I then requested that the bicycle also be assembled, as I had seen that they were assembling another customer’s bicycle. However, I was informed that they could not assemble it for me unless I paid him. I explained that I did not have the money to pay for the assembly. The sales agent then stated that they could not assist me, as company policy does not allow sales agents to assemble bicycles without payment, and that assembling bicycles is not considered part of their duties or a side job.

I then asked whether the assembly would be simple or quick, but I was still informed that they could not assist me due to company policy.

During my conversation with the sales agent, the store manager approached, and I asked him to clarify the company policy regarding bicycle assembly. The manager informed me that I could be assisted with assembling the bicycle; however, he stated that it would have to be an arrangement between myself and the sales agent.

I then asked the manager whether it would not be better for the store to assemble bicycles for customers upon request in order to promote sales, rather than requiring customers to pay sales agents directly. I further stated that if sales agents are not permitted to assemble bicycles as part of their duties, then it should not be allowed at all within the store, regardless of any private arrangements. I explained that if I see another customer being assisted with bicycle assembly, I would also reasonably expect the same service. I further questioned what would happen if a customer does not have money to pay for such an arrangement.

The manager responded that he did not have an answer to that concern and reiterated that any assistance would have to be arranged directly with the sales agent. The sales agent again refused to assist me without payment.

As a result, I assembled the bicycle myself inside the store. The store’s CCTV footage can support and confirm my statement.
