No refund of deposit
My insurance company arranged a hire car from Gage Car Hire in Germiston whilst my vehicle was being repaired after an accident. I paid a refundable deposit of R1550 and took the option of extra insurance cover they offered me.
I returned the vehicle on 1st Feb with a full tank. Since that time I have made about twelve phone calls to Lynette requesting refund of my deposit. First I was told they are waiting for the road tolls report, then they told me that Europcar is the main contractor and they were holding my deposit.
I spoke to Europcar who informed me that:
1. Gage car hire were in fact holding my deposit
2. I did not need extra insurance as I was covered in the contract???
In addition when Gage picked up the vehicle from my property it had a full tank. They drove to Germiston, 15 kilometres away and charged me for NINE litres of fuel.

I have reported this to Europcar and my insurance company and hope that they take action against the sort of ******* practices carried out by Gage Car Hire
Mr Stonelake. I have looked into this matter in detail:
A total payment was made by you to Gage Car hire of R2,000.I have reconcilled the account and can confirm a refund of 1555.00 was paid to you on the 08th Feb, Leaving a balnce of 445 which has been allocated as follows: 1. Contract fee of 55.00 2. Excess waiver for 13 days 390.00. From a finacial point of view all funds and transactions have been processed correctly. With regard to the additional points you have raised:1 There has been no charge to you for fuel or toll. 2. Europcar misinformed you of the insurance cover - there is in fact a 3,000 excess due in the event of an accident. the 390.00 paid by you was to reduce the excess to zero in the event of a claim. We pride ourselves in honesty and integrity, and being part of a listed entity on the JSE I do find your accusation of '******* practices' unfounded. I must apologies for the number of calls you made to Gage and will take the relevent person to task, as this is unacceptable, in addition our standard turn around time for any refunds due to renters is aprox 5 days. Your refund was processed 7 days ofter the rental was termed. Apologies for the two day delay.
