Beware - This is not an SA company, despite how it may appear. You will pay import duty!

Oh how I wish I'd looked at Hello Peter before making an order from Fruugo.

Despite the .co.za URL and everything being priced in Rand, this is not a South African based company, they are based in the UK. They don't even have their own stock, they just re-sell from other online retailers.

Unfortunately, I only picked up on this 5 days after I ordered, by which stage it was too late to cancel.

I have been in discussion with Fruugo's customer service who advised me "The domain shows .co.za so that customers can buy the items in their own currency avoiding this way currency converting fees". Great, so I'll save a tiny fee on a currency conversion, but I'll pay a 40% import duty? Yeah, thanks for that!

Let's face it, it probably won't actually make it this far without being ****** anyway.

The site is deliberately misleading in my opinion. They make the site appear to be local and mention in the small print that you may be charged an import duty. If they made it apparent they were overseas, and goods would be shipped from abroad, nobody in SA would order from there.
