FRANK MP PLUMBING (PTY) LTD

Our experience with Frank as our plumber has been terrible. There are too many issues to report here and we also do not have proof of some, so I am therefore only writing a few examples here:

We did major renovations to our house and paid Frank +/- R50'000 for all his work.

1. We told Frank that we had smell issues in the existing plumbing and that we want to make it very clear from the beginning that we do not want any smells from the plumbing. He promised us that there won't be any, but it will cost more. We agreed. When he was finished - the smells were worse than ever.

2. He was constantly skimping on his workmanship to save himself time and money, which in the end costs us Thousands of Rands extra. Too many cases and details to report here.

3. When it came close to finalising the job - we held back the last +/-R2'000.00 owed to him, because we realised to have the issues resolved by another plumber, should he drop us, would cost much more. Which is exactly what happened.

4. He started to make excuses. Amongst the smells from the toilet and showers, we had leaks in a toilet and basin, which needed to be fixed. He sent a message saying he's going away for 2 weeks and he doesn't have a problem if we use the leftover money to get another plumber to fix the issues. We told him that he is our plumber and he must fix it. We got a 2nd and 3rd opinion from 2 other plumbers, regarding the smells and after testing a few things out, we were again messed around by Frank. We realised that we could wait forever and we had to have the issues sorted, because we were scared of the health risks to our two year old, due to the fumes.

5. We ended up paying more than double the outstanding amount for another plumber to fix the smelly toilet, fix the leaking basin and install a new shower trap to reduce smells coming from there into our sons room. We still need to pay to fix the leaking toilet in the other bathroom and install a new shower trap there too. Then we must still pay for a plasterer, extra tiles and a tiler to come and re-close everything. It will cost us more than 3 times the amount owed to Frank.

6. We asked Frank numerous times to give us our certificate. First Frank sent a message that he doesn't have the money to go and buy a certificate. We offered to pay for the certificate. Now he claims that, because another plumber 'finished' the work, the other plumber must issue the certificate. The other plumber (big reputable company) said that they didn't finish any work and that Frank is taking a chance. Another company can't certify his work done. They only fixed minor things and didn't do any plumbing installations and he is responsible for the certificate.

7. I phoned him on 11 August and he said that he'll make a plan and get it to us by Friday 14 August 2020. When I messaged him late Friday afternoon, he changed his story again.

If Frank doesn't come to the party today, I will make contact with IOPSA and a few other institutions, to take this matter further - even if it costs me a lot of extra money. It is now about the principal.
