Income Protection Policy
Paying [URL Removed] for 4 years on an income protection policy. I was retrenched in August 2015. The company I was working for has been unable to pay salaries at the end of the month, and were doing small payments since February of 2015.
In July of 2015, there was no salaries paid. The CEO remarked via e-mail that he will be looking into retrenchments. In an attempt to source an income for myself, I requested a retrenchment from the company because they were unable to pay salaries.
I app**** for income protection policy to start, and also registered a business name to start my own business. I disclosed the information to [URL Removed] noting that the insurance pay-outs would help to get my venture going.
After waiting 6 weeks for the investigation to complete, I was informed they will not be paying out because the company I was working for did not follow a proper retrenchment procedure and also because I requested a retrenchment. The contract I signed did say that a procedure must be followed and I may not request retrenchment, so even tho I was not getting paid, I should've stayed there. I feel under circumstance an arrangement could have been made to support a loyal customer.
