FRANK.NET SALARY PROTECTION NOT PAID
Salary Protection Cover claim NOT PAID
I took a salary protection cover with Frank.net more than five years ago. The cover was to protect my salary in case of retrenchment or injury at work. I paid a premium of R340 every month without fail.
In April 2018 I was retrenched by the company I worked for . The company decided to move its headquarters to another country in Africa. A few days before my last day with the company, I was requested to stay on for a month to further assist with handover of work because the employee that was tasked with that resigned and got another job shortly before I left.
The company decided to give me a short term fixed contract to assist. I worked two weeks in a month as a contractor with a lower salary and no benefits. The contact was initially going to be for a month but I ended up assisting until the 30 April 2019. My full time employment was terminated on the 30 April 2018, and my retrenchment package was paid out on that day.
After being retrenched I decided not to submit my claim to Frank.net because I was still earning income from the short term contract the company gave me. Frank.net would not have paid my claim due to the fact that I was still receiving income. Also before the claim is approved one is required to prove and submit an affidavit that you are completely unemployed.
I submitted my claim in July 2019 two months after I had now completely stopped working.
My claim was rejected due to the fact that after being retrenched I continued to work as a short term contractor with the same company that retrenched me. My question is whether my claim would have been approved had I claimed even though I was still earning income. Was I supposed to lie and not disclose the fact that the company requested me to stay on for a few months after paying my package. I feel that I am being penalized for being an honest policy holder , because I had thought that it would be dishonest to claim that I don’t work anymore while I was still earning some income. The fact is that I was retrenched and still am. I worked a few months for the same company that retrenched me. It would have been understandable if I had a contract with a completely different company. This company is finally closing its doors 30 September 2019.
At the moment I am unemployed, have been since 30 April 2019 when my retrenchment became final. I took this policy so that it can help me in times like these.
It is ********* for insurance companies such as Frank.net to trick us consumers, especially in times like these when unemployment is so high in South Africa.
I want Frank.net to pay out my claim or reimburse my premiums from when I started paying premiums for this policy.
