I recently app**** for a rental property through Framework Commercial Properties for Sandton View Lifestyle Estate and had a very disappointing experience. After submitting all the required documentation requested for the application, I was informed that I was considered a “high-risk” client. What concerned me was that the criteria shared with me indicated that low-risk applicants are generally only required to provide basic documents such as ID copies, while I was repeatedly asked for additional information despite already meeting the affordability requirements. The rental amount was approximately R7,500, and my salary exceeds the stated affordability requirement of earning at least three times the rent. Even after providing all requested documents, I still felt unfairly scrutinized and treated differently. When I tried to raise my concerns professionally and ask for clarity on the assessment process, the consultant handling my application became dismissive and unprofessional instead of addressing my concerns properly. As a Black applicant, the experience left me feeling racially profiled and unfairly categorized without proper justification. Because of how the matter was handled, I ultimately decided to forfeit the application process altogether. I believe all applicants deserve to be treated fairly, respectfully, and consistently regardless of race. I hope Framework Commercial Properties reviews how their screening and client communication processes are handled going forward.
