Tragic

I recently rushed by 11 year old dog to the Fourways vet as he was having difficulty urinating and appeared constipated (he had undergone surgery at my regular vet a few days prior to this to remove a growth from his *****). After waiting for 2 hours the vet on duty, never got her name, finally came to the car and took him away. He was brought back to me about half an hour later in severe distress, completely unresponsive (appeared to be comatose) and unable to stand. His condition seemed to be deteriorating rapidly, but to my horror I was advised to take him home and take him back to my own vet the next morning (it was 00h30 in the morning). So would have had to wait 7 hours before he could be helped. When asked what happened the vet was very evasive and said she didn’t know, but when pushed she admitted she had perforated his bladder when she was trying to drain urine from it. Apparently he had been struggling at the time. With his condition deteriorating and the prospect of waiting another 7 hours before I could take him to my own vet I asked that he be put to sleep, as I didn’t want him to suffer any further. I left the Fourways veterinary clinic completed stunned and saddened not only for the loss of my beloved dog but for the cold and callous nature of the vet who had treated him. If this had happened to a human it would have been a ******** matter, but what the hell, just a poor old dog that trusted you to help him. SHAME ON YOU
