Very poor battery life on new watches

After friends purchased some fossil watches , I purchased one for my wife. All our batteries lasted less than 1 year. This is very disappointing when you consider the price of these watches. My wife's watch battery died after 8 months but Fossil are not interested in replacing them at their cost. They will charge you R70 to replace the battery ......what a *******.
