My 2022 Ford Raptor went for its 30 000km service and they report the gearbox is faulty and needs to be opened up.

This is so frustrating writing this post as i made the same mistake back in 2015 when i purchased a new Ranger Double Cab. Error lights came on as i drove off the showroom floor within the first 20km, ended up having to take it back to the Dealership 3 times under 100km…. They then swapped it out for a new one and i had no issues until sold it at around 40 000km on.

I accepted that i may have purchased a dud and Ford managed to restore the faith. Since then i was always a bit hesitant/ weary of the Ford Rangers reliability. I owned a Fortuner and Prado thereafter and no issues whatsoever.

Recently i decided to buy a Ranger Raptor, hoping the reliably issues will be sorted out 8 years later. On its second service (30 000km) the dealership reports back and says the gearbox is faulty. They need to book it in, open up the Gearbox and need to investigate further.

Seriously, at 30 000km on the clock? My wife mostly drives the bakkie to drop kids off at school and back.

It has never been off road or used in 4x4 and never on dirt roads. I am absolutely shocked that im having issues again with a 2nd Ford Ranger. We really enjoyed the Raptor and i was actually considering trading in our BMW X5 on another Ranger or perhaps an Everest for my wife.

Since this is my second bad experience, im so grateful i havent traded my X5 yet.

I have lost all faith in my Raptor…. Such a cool bakkie but based on reliability, a Hilux would probably be the better option long term.
