Ford South Africa Product Failure
Hi Peter I am so angry with the Service received from Ford South Africa. Let me enlighten you on my predicament! In 2015, I've purchased a brand new limited edition Ford Tourneo Connect Long Wheel Base with an Automatic Transmission. I have religiously taken my vehicle for services at Ford Dealerships and in 2019, I took my vehicle for a service at a Non Approved Ford Dealer. I have maintained my vehicle very well over the last 5 years. About 3 months ago, out of the blue, my vehicle's Transmission just stopped working and couldn't kick into gear. After cooling down, it went back into gear and the vehicle was drivable again. I've contacted a towing company to take my Ford Tourneo to Ford Tigervalley in Cape Town. A Consultant contacted me asking to explain the problem on my vehicle and I gave her all the details as it transpired. She said they will look into it and revert. Eventually she contacted me and informed me that my Transmission has packed up and gave me an estimate telephonically that it will cost R130 000 to replace. My initial response was, "I've purchased the vehicle brand new and cannot accept that I need to pay R130k to have my vehicle fixed. The reason why I've bought a new car is not to sit with mechanical problems and the vehicle only has 106000 km on the clock and the Transmissiin only needs to be serviced at 240000km." I've asked her if this problem occurred before on this make and model, and she confirmed that this was the first time a Transmission packed up on a Ford Tourneo Connect. My reply was, " then it must be a product failure and it needs to be reported to Ford South Africa. What makes things even more frustrating for me, I am religiously still paying my monthly installment of R6250 per month and cannot make use of my vehicle. I then spoke to the Workshop Manager of Ford Tygervalley who reported the issue to Ford South Africa. I was then informed that my vehicle is still under Warranty for another month and they will streamline the process to get a Goodwill done on my vehicle. Eventually the Consultant contacted me to say that Ford South Africa has rejected the Goodwill due to my vehicle being serviced at a Non Approved Dealer. My response was that Ford South Africa is looking for a reason not to pay, and not to admit that it is a product failure. I've also asked what the Service of my vehicle has got to do with my Transmission. After all, Ford is well aware that the Transmission only needs to be serviced at 240000 km. Now they have given me a reduced quote of R113k to replace my gearbox. I will never buy a Ford product again!! I'm now in a position where I still need to pay for another year and half, before settling and not able to use my vehicle. Consumers, think hard before buying a Ford!! This is unacceptable, that the Consumer must pay for Ford South Africa's Product Failure.
