Ford SA not built tough
My reality: I bpught my vehicle in 2018(from East Cape Motors William Moffat) on approximately 16000km. I've strictly taken it for it's annual service with them too. I understand about 5 years down the line we have incurred wear and tear on the vehicle(realistically) and I understand a vehicle's valje depreciates rather quickly(it is an ever evolving and very dynamic business), and so, billions are made. Ever more so when for the year 2023 you're given a very prestigious award "Car of the year" (I'm sure that can't hurt sales). The guys in the drawing room work their magic to do facelifts, the engineering is more impressive and the advertising is riveting. Well done! Many long hours spent to make that dream come true for the business.
Oh yeah, my reality, almost forgot... I have with my Everest hit the 86000km mark. Wear and tear etc etc. I'm the only one who drives the car, I start hearing this noise. I get the Ford to do a diagnostic and guess what? My differential is faulty. I say ok, what's the financial implication? The replacement of said part(without) labour is in the vicinity of R60000. Falling of my chair is an understatement. I mean wow! An employee says "That's why I said you should purchase extended warranty". Blows my mind because I just spent near R350000 and I was supposed to spend an additional R60000 because this is in the event (my reality again) an IMPORTANT moving part needs replacing which we'll charge you R60000 for. I'm stumped. This is a trusted brand, one I cart my children in to and from school daily, and vehicle which I spent hard earned money on because you trust their reliability(using this word loosely). I've lost faith in the depot, the personnel and the brand. I lodge a complaint and I am told "Mam, parts break. That's something you need to understand. Not too long ago a 2022/2023 released cars gearbox broke into pieces at 2000km. Luckily for them it was within warranty so we replaced the part". Amazing I'm sure that owner is pleased with you. I'm not. I earn a below average salary and you're saying we're sorry this is not our problem as you're out of warrantee and we trust you will sink or swim on your own. Pay the part cost with labour to be replaced or have your Differential reconditioned at a lesser cost to you. R60000 or .....I'm so disappointed that at such a premature stage in the vehicles life I have to replace such a hugely important and hardworking part. Question: If the fault I have can be seen on the surface but rather needs to be opened to diagnose, how can I be assured this was not a fault when I was sold the car? Ford won't budge on their reputation for being "built tough". Such an absolute laugh. It's the kind of experience that stays with you. So what now? Where do I find R60000 + labour?
