Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2.0 10SPD AT. Today is the second time that my wife and I had to be towed in after my new Ranger Wildtrak had transmission problems. The vehicle has just over 8000km. The first time around the transmission completely cut out at 110km/h. Ford roadside assistance does not take you back home if you are in a radius of 100km from home. In my case I was 87.6 km from home. They towed the vehicle to Potchefstroom since this was closest. I had to get someone from Pretoria to fetch us from Ventersdorp. I registered a case with Ford SA and informed them about the incident and that this is a serious safety issue. This was early March 2020. It was clear from the outset that Ford was just going to handle this as a warranty claim, shrugging off any concerns I had. After receiving the vehicle back from Daly Ford Potchefstroom (just before lockdown), the transmission linkage was problematic. I took the vehicle back to Lazarus Ford Centurion on 4 June 2020 (where I purchased it) and they ensured me that the vehicle checked out ok. Ford SA did a recall on these vehicles with respect to the transmission problem on 14 May 2020 stating "In affected vehicles, the transmission fluid pump gear failure could cause a loss of hydraulic fluid pressure in the transmission, resulting in transmission malfunction and a loss of drive, increasing the risk of a crash". Today, 13 June 2020, while driving from Centurion to Krugersdorp, the transmission again failed. No transmission at 120km/h and overheating. Once again there was no real help from Ford Roadside Assistance. "We will tow you to the nearest Ford dealer, but from there on you are on your own". I have no confidence in the vehicle whatsoever.
