Ford Fiesta heating , Degas hose problem

Trust all is well

I have a 2013 Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost

I havent had a problem with this vehicle until recently it started losing power.

This weekend it heated up and when I pull over I opened the bonnet and the degas pipe from the water bottle was out as the fitting looks like broke inside.

I checked up on this and to my knowledge this is a comman problem with these car models from 2011 to 2014.

Please advise as this is a major concern

Published 28 August 2018 On Ford 1.0 Ecoboost engines from 2012 to 2014 there is a weakness in the ‘degas’ pipe between the turbocharger and expansion tank that can lead to the engine losing coolant, overheating and potential engine failure.

Where the cars have been regularly serviced by Ford dealers, these pipes have been modified to remove the weakness. Ford dealers have contacted known owners and asked them to bring their cars in. The modified, thicker pipe is as shown in the photo above.

However, where the cars have been bought second-hand or do not have a full Ford franchised dealer service history, the pipe may not have been modified and looks as above in the second and lead photo.

If you run a 2 ********** Ford Focus, C-Max, Connect, EcoSport or Fiesta with the 1.0 Ecoboost engine, first check what the degas pipe looks like and if looks like the relatively thin pipe in the second photo you should urgently book the car in to a franchised Ford dealer to be fitted with the modified coolant ‘degas’ pipe.

If your engine looks like the third photo there is no need to worry. This shows the production modified coolant ‘degas’ pipe fitted from late 2014.

1-10-2018: Ford announced that it will be fitting new 1.0 Ecoboost engines to the 1,000 out-of-warranty Fiesta, Focus and Tourneo Connect models the company had previously refused to re-engine when the engines failed due to loss of coolant (some cars for a 2nd time). 600,000 1.0 EcoBoosts have been produced. 44,000 have had their turbo-to-expansion tank degas pipes replaced as a TSB 'service action'. But 2,000 suffered actual engine failure. Of these, 1,000 have had their engines replaced free of charge, but the other 1,000 had not. Ford rectified this situation on 1-10-2018
