Clutch Plate Burned after 35 ****m
Good Day
Please see the response received from the dealership on my query.
I would still appreciate supporting documents (warrantee wording explaining the warrantee conditions).
Furthermore I am disappointed that the time taken to explain the process which was 10 minutes is mentioned in the email. How does a female client of Ford understand the complaint process when dealing with mechanical failure in a car. It seems as if I wasted the dealerships time.
I am disappointed as to how my complaint and situation is being dealt with.
My car is still at the dealership and I’m waiting for feedback still from head office and not the dealership.
While I still need to pay for only stripping and diagnostics for the dealer to distinguish where the problem lies I find this very unfair . Can I at least receive a courtesy car while waiting for Ford dealership and head office to deal with what seems to be a hard decision about who needs to pay for this.
It is also unacceptable for my complaint to be evaluated after 48 hours even though my car is already at the dealership. I’m left with no choice but to go on social media ( Hello Peter, FaceBook) to express my displeasure and annoyance.
In light of recent events how much do you want to further cripple your Brand that has thus far received negative publicity especially with the Cougher brand and the clutch problems on the Ford focus & Figgo world-wide. See below emails regarding the clutch problems discussed above.

Good afternoon Vashinee
I refer to and respond to your mail below. We/ I have not said that we will not accept any responsibility for any payments on this repair. When you came in yesterday as your vehicle was towed in, you were brought into my office by my warranty clerk Paula where we had a conversation for around 10 minutes of where I explained all and every process in what needs to happen and the way we need to do things with regard to the complaint on your vehicle and more specifically a clutch repair. I will detail this same conversation below for reference,
1. The clutch could fail due to the slave cylinder (hydraulic brake fluid) leaking. 2. The clutch could fail due to a part failure. 3. The clutch could fail due to driving style, this includes riding a clutch, slipping a clutch, dragging a clutch. 4. A clutch could be burnt out within a couple of km’s also depending on how it has been used/ handled. 5. We would first do the basic checks where we lift the vehicle on the hoist and check the gear linkages, any fluid leaks and all possible functionality without having to strip further. It was also told to you that this would not cost anything to you as we need to do the basics before we can decide on the way forward. 6. If in the event that the above checks all come back positive and in order, we will then need to remove the gearbox and clutch plate in order to put our own eyes on the parts as well as take all the necessary pictures and generate the report that warranty would require. 7. Step 6 includes quoting the customer a diagnosis fee as the warranty department does not cover for strip and diagnose and it was explained to you how the process going forward works. 8. We quote the customer the strip and diagnose so that we can get what we need to submit to warranty and we do the submission. If warranty accepts the claim and finds that this is a Ford part/ warranty failure then this charge would be taken away from you and submitted to warranty and you would not pay anything. If warranty declines the repair for any reason then the quote to replace the required parts would be handed over to you the customer. This quote would already include the strip work that has been done as you have approved this already and so the remainder would be the other half for reassembly and the required parts. 9. If was further explained what the clutch parts tell us and why with regard to discolouration from the heat (this is generated from the driving actions mentioned in point 3. 10. It was also explained to you that this is the requirement and the process set out by Ford SA and the Ford warranty diagnosis and claiming process. 11. There was also mention that the warranty on a clutch from 0km – 20000km covers for 100% claim coverage with a result of a part/ Ford failure, and from 20000km – 40000km there is only a 50% coverage and this is due to usage that the customer has already used in this km’s driven. 12. We all agreed that if this was to be a Ford/ part failure and the warranty does accept the claim then you would be liable for 50% of the repair bill.
I spent my time mentioning all of this to you so that you are aware of all the actions that need to take place and all the possibilities that could arise from this process. You agreed and seemed happy in that I mentioned all of this to you already.
Upon our basic diagnosis that we did, I personally called you to explain the following,
1. The first thing we smelt when pushing the vehicle into the workshop of which I personally smelt this also as I assisted in pushing the vehicle in that the clutch smelt extremely badly burnt. 2. The clutch cables were checked and all in a good normal working order. 3. There was no oil leaks (brake fluid) found and the hydraulic system was in a good normal working order. 4. The clutch could not be engaged when the engine was running and this is a sign that the clutch has worn to its maximum and this could be due to the parts being burnt from the smell that was experienced. 5. There was also a lot of clutch plate residue/ shavings/ powder seen coming out of the gearbox and this is a sign that the clutch has worn and possibly from being burn due to the above mentioned reasons.
As I mentioned over the phone, we are not the ones to say exactly what has happened or caused the clutch to be in the condition that it is in but this is our professional opinion and this is accompanied by our expertise and our experience in the trade and specifically with this same complaint. I did also mention that I do not want to say for sure that this is the case as it is and would still like to remove the gearbox as we would have to as mentioned in step 6 so that we can have 100% confirmation and that we would still submit all to Ford for their opinion and diagnosis also.
I quoted you all of the possible prices and will do so again so that this is on record,
1. Strip and diagnose the clutch – R 2266.00incl 2. If warranty accepts the claim, this is at a 50% portion that would be – R 9832.55incl (this will be slightly less as the warranty pricing is slightly less but we would wait for Ford warranty’s pricing to be presented) 3. The full repair if no warranty claim is possible – R19665.09incl
Please advise on what you would like us to go forward with on your vehicle?

Good morning
I am an extremely upset client of Ford. My name is Vashinee Toolsee. ( ********** 100088 ID NUMBER) I purchased a 2015 Ford focus 1 litre Ecoboost hatchback from Ford in KZN. Recently while driving to work without warning the clutch pedal gave out ,went into the floor of the car . I had it towed to the nearest Ford dealer in Fourways. I was advised that I have to pay an amount to strip the car. Also that they will not accept responsibility for any payments that need to be made to have this repaired. I am distressed as the car has 30560 KM on the clock. It has been for its annual service in JULY 2017. The service was done without any major problems detected. I do not sit in peak hour traffic as I reside 20KM from my place of work and I leave very early everyday to 6AM to avoid peak hour traffic. So I am surprised at a clutch plate giving up on a brand new car.
Can someone please assist me as the financial implication is horrific and my trust in this brand has been shaken completely. The car is sitting at the dealer and I need urgent assistance with my complaint.

- DRIVER DRIVING S****S OR ABILTY – not sure how a driver proves that, I have mentioned that i do not drive more than 20KM to and from work, and the FACT that this vehicle is practically brand new with only 30 000km – (good question) – To what extend does the ford brand guarantee their product or Brand – not to mentioned the endless recall and below concerns and complains across the world. - If this is my first vehicle with Ford is this really the route Ford would like to go – I can prove my time arriving at work (no pick traffic), I can also get an insurance history of my driving ability and awareness of my valuable assets that i do not put any company at risk or have a trend for claiming, or even previous trends to dealerships from previous cars I had - I have a right to question FORD on their product – considering Fords recent trends on recalling vehicles, not to mentioned the bad services as seen on hello Peter – I question them.
CAR Still under kms considering its only 2 years old. Please see complaints listed below WORLDWIDE:
1. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/user-article/111213/ford-focus-1-0 - Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost engine failure - barney100 Friend of mine had a clutch go on a year old Fiesta.....Ford didn't want to know. Dealer blamed bad driving technique on a driver of 40 years’ experience and charged full price ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/84425/second-clutch-and-dmf-burnt-out-after-3000-miles---is-it-fair-that-ford-attribute-it-to-my-driving-style Second clutch and DMF burnt out after 3000 miles - is it fair that Ford attribute it to my driving style? The clutch and flywheel on my Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost (new since September 2015) were burnt out and replaced in November 2016. The dealer and Ford wouldn't pay under warranty, as they attributed this to bad driving. The same problem occurred last week, August 2017. I've only done 3000 miles. When my car was serviced in March, I met with a gentleman with the same problem, his Ford's clutch burnt out with only 900 miles. In addition, I have told the garage of the "stickiness" when stepping on the pedal. They said it was fine. But I had a Ford C-Max courtesy car for the past few days, the clutch feels so springy with no stickiness. 3. Asked on 30 August 2017 by Lana Liu 4. Answered by Honest John This is an extremely common problem with the Focus 1.0 Ecoboost and C-Max 1.0 Ecoboost, which is still met with denial by Ford and, worse still, owners are being blamed for the failures for their 'driving style'. Ford needs to come clean about this and give the cars the same five year extended warranty that it gave to its equally problematic Powershift clutch packs on these cars. Use the evidence in: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/focus-2011/?sec.../ and in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/focus-2014/?sec.../ to prove that this is a common problem and demand full reimbur*****t for the cost of the two clutches and DMFs from the supplying dealer. it has been a long struggle with ford randfontein since i bought the car in 2015 all the trouble start i bought my car in 2015 brand new at ford randfontein after my first service it started giving me problems a week after that the engine service light was on, i took it back to ford , they said they reset the car, few months after that i got stuck ion the road the car did not want to move eventually after an hour started i returned i back to ford they said it was the,map sensor apparently they replaced it a few days later the engine light went on again i took it back they fixed the light....two weeks after second service the car started shuddering or shaking when I start it and i had to tow it to a nearest FORD (action fordROODEPOORT) At first action ford said it is a clutch(on an automatic car) and later they said it is spark plugs. That was two weeks after service, how is that possible?Action ford fixed it but a week later another problem, the car started overheating and I took it to Randfontein ford , they said the cap on the water cooler was not there but the cap was there. They claimed to have put in a new cap but a week later again overheating and this time it was a loose clamp on the cooling system i returned it they apparently fix it a few days after that the car started driving very slowly not having any power at all when i go up heal... I ALSO NEED TO INFORM YOU THAT I AM A DIALYSIS PATIENT WHO WOKE UP AT 4 IN THE MORNINGS MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS TO GET TO FLORA CLINIC AND IM ALL ALONE BY MYSELF THIS IS A BIG RISK FOR ME Please advise me a way forward with all these problems on a new car that I pay for every month in hopeless every time i return the car its a new problem -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dealership refused to take my car in for repairs My car got stuck on Saturday (30/09/2017). The dealer was closed at the time (Ford Basil Green) AA towed the car to their depot. On Monday the car was towed back to Basil Green and the AA driver was informed that they will not accept the car as the car is under Consolidated Motors Ford (Boksburg branch) I called 4 different dealers and they all confirmed that the car can be taken to any dealer in the country. My car is currently at Ford The Glen. I have not received a single phone call from them or any sort of feedback from the branch. I'm still waiting to find out what is wrong with my car and I also requested a courtesy car with no luck. Ford customer service department called me only to tell me that the dealer is still diagnosing the issue which was after 16:00 yesterday (03/10/2017) I find this to be unprofessional and unacceptable that I'm left in the dark and stranded with no car. 4 Oct 2017, 17:05 a month ago Preneshanp: Left a message with the customer service manager to call me back and I havent received anything from him. I got a call from Ford a few minutes ago telling me now all of a sudden it's actually my clutch that failed and instead of costing me + - R4800 just for the clutch, now it will cost me +R25000. I was informed yesterday that my clutch wasn't the problem and today it is. On my last visit to Ford the Glen I was also assured that my clutch would never just fail on me without a warning, the other staff member tells me that it could fail at any time and can even leave me stranded on the side of the road. This is pathetic. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9-04-2017 06:04 PM#1 rogerk Junior Member Join Date Apr 2017 Posts 5 Ford Clutch not lasting? I own a 2016 Ford Focus, Manual, 1.5T with around 40 000km on the clock. clutch gone and now have to fit a bill of R 13 000 to have it replaced. apparently this is due to driving style... interesting enough I've owned in excess of 10 vehicles each with well over 100 000km driven and I've only ever replaced one clutch in my lifetime.
So I guess habits change over 20 years of driving lol
This thread is really just to try and establish a pattern, should there maybe be one. During discussion with the dealership I managed to pick up that there were currently 4 Ford Kuga's (one possibly a focus but can't know for sure) in the workshop currently with the same issue. It would appear that a Ford clutch will simply not last past 50 000km in normal Johannesburg driving conditions.
Problem i experience only really manifests on pull-away when the hill assist doesn't engage from time to time and makes a horrible grinding noise. doesn't slip or shudder but would think that this will happen soon enough if not seen too. on occasion you can even smell it burn.
So if there are any other ford owners of the new Focus, EcoSport or Kuga with manual transmission that are experiencing similar issues please feel to drop me a line as i am not taking this one lying down. I can only form my own opinions at this point and given Ford's recent KUGA nightmare it does fit...
