Fury Ford Fourways SUCKS

We took a perfect Ford Ecosport Ecoboost in for an annual service to Fury Ford Fourways.

There were no water or oild leaks and expected the usual 1 day service as with all dealers but ours turned into a nightmare requiring a new engine and we do not want the vehicle backk.

They destroyed it and should replace it.

Her is the latest letter publishe from the dealer principle showing some incompetence:

Hi Laurence,

Without prejudice.

I have attached Travis’ detailed report that was mailed to you last night for reference. Below, please find my rather simplified version of what has transpired with your vehicle:

· Vehicle came to us for its 3rd annual service

· It was noted that we needed to check the battery as the vehicle was battling to start

· Upon initial inspection of the vehicle by our technician, it was noted that the water bottle for the engine was empty (the car never used water or oil before and it was checked regularly)

· We then carried out the standard 3rd annual service on the vehicle (for reference later, this includes new spark plug replacement x 4). In a 3 cylinder engine?

· For further reference later, the engine oil that was drained was noted as ‘clean’ oil

· Upon further diagnosis we found that the front timing cover, water seal was leaking?

· We replaced the faulty water seal under Ford’s Warranty

· Upon starting the engine to test the cooling system a secondary pipe was found to be leaking

· No part replacement was necessary, we simply need to re-secure the clamp that fastens this pipe-This took a day!

· Upon attempting to start the engine to again test the cooling system we found that it would not start

· As a first step we took the new spark plugs out and fitted the old ones back again. The engine immediately started ?

· This brought an end to the day’s business and the vehicle spent the night in our Workshop

· Upon attempting to start the engine the following day, it would not start. It was also noted that the level of the water in the water bottle was substantially lower than the previous day after we had filled it

· As a first check, we again removed the spark plugs and then noticed water lying on top of the piston (piston number 3)

· We then removed this water from the cylinder and fitted new spark plugs

· We then started the engine (which it did easily)

· The engine began misfiring and smoking/ steaming out of the exhaust. This is a sure sign that the head gasket had blown at a point between the water jacket and the combustion chamber of cylinder number 3

· An inspection of the engine oil showed it be ‘milky’ – a sign of oil and water mixing (further evidence of a blown head gasket)

· We then again removed the spark plugs and carried out a compression test where extremely low compression was found on cylinder number 3

We then submitted the above findings and evidence to Ford SA for Warranty authorisation to replace the head gasket. Ford SA authorised a complete engine replacement (and will not entertain only replacing the head gasket).

Subsequent to presenting the above to yourself you have made it very clear that you will not accept that the engine be replaced and instead have indicated that you demand a replacement vehicle.

I can assure you that there was no fault from any of our technicians that lead to the untimely failure of the head gasket. It is impossible to blow a head gasket by external force or by working on any of the external parts of the engine – one would need to strip the engine down to get to the head gasket. Head gaskets fail for the following reasons – overheating, part failure and through wear and tear.

Ford SA would also not have approved the engine replacement had they suspected any wrong doing by ourselves which as I have mentioned above, is impossible to do.

In closing, the only way forward for us as a Dealershiop is to replace the engine under warranty or, if you so choose and as suggested by yourself, to sell the vehicle (see attached valuation).-We only said we do not want the vehicle back and FURY FORD FOURWAYS should replace it!!!!-see above

As a customer, you are welcome to approach Ford Customer Care South Africa or the Motor Industry Ombudsman for legal advice.

Regards,

Jock Green

Dealer Principal
