Poor quality mutton.
The mutton packs quite pricey RR129.99 per kilo and We paid R175 for 1.35 kg. This sheep must be older than the mountains. I am making a mutton bredie. This meat is now cooking from 10am. It almost took out all the lovely flavours of the different fresh ingredients I added to the base which is onions , celery carrots beefstock chilli flskes garlic ******, all that i bought from food *****s. From about an hour of simmer I had to add water all the time to try and get the meat tender. I actually added meat tenderiser now which I hate. Please ask them to buy sheep that are younger. The farmers had it tough for a few years with the draughts but than they must release the sheep at a younger age because we want meat for dinner not biltong .
